Laser Body Contouring

Q. What Can I expect on my first visit?

A. At your first visit you will meet with a consultant and discuss your goals. Together you will develop a treatment plan that will best fit your needs. Be prepared for your first treatment at this visit. It is best not to eat or drink 2 hours prior to a treatment. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to appointment time in order to fill out consent forms and take the necessary measurements.

Q. What are the treatments like?

A. The treatment lasts 30 minutes. You lay on a relaxing and comfortable table. The laser technician will place paddles that emit the lasers on the desired areas. Immediately following the laser treatment you will stand on a whole body vibrating platform to increase your circulation. The increased blood flow stimulates the body's systems to help burn calories.

Q. How Soon will I see results?

A. Results can be seen immediately following the first procedure. However, best results are seen following several treatments. The outlined treatment plan included 3 treatments a week for 3 weeks.

Q. Is this a quick fix and do I need to do anything else other than laser treatments?

A. This is the quickest non-surgical solution to unwanted body fat. It is not a quick fix. There are some guidelines the patient should follow while undergoing the laser treatments. Since the laser opens the fat cells and leaves the them vulnerable for 48 hours, eating habits should be adjusted to avoid foods high in fat and sugar during that time period. Good exercise in conjunction with the laser treatments provides optimal results.

Q. Does it hurt?

A:  Some say it feels warm like a heating pad.

Laser Hair Removal

Q. How does Laser Hair removal Work?

A:  During the laser hair removal treatment the laser light safely and gently passes through the dermis, allowing the light to be absorbed into the hair root destroying the follicle cells so they can no longer produce hair. The energy from the light emitted is absorbed by melanin, the pigment in hair. Although hair re-growth has been prevented the laser does not injure the surrounding skin and the procedure is virtually pain-free.
Laser light is transmitted only 1-5 millimeters into the skin. The laser targets the pigment located in the hair follicle and shaft. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and this energy is converted to heat which results in damage to the hair follicle. Because of the highly selective action of the laser light, the laser hair removal procedure actually works as a two-step process. It is easy to eliminate a hair shaft and its root. Waxing, tweezing and depilatory creams affect only the hair, not the papilla. For permanent results, the capillaries in the papilla must be disabled. This is accomplished when sufficient heat has built up in the hair bulb (via the attraction of the laser light) to disable the capillaries in the papilla.

All hair grows in cycles that consist of three stages– the Anagen phase (active growth), Catagen phase (resting stage) or Telogen phase (fall-out stage). Hair can only be permanently destroyed in the Anagen (active) phase, as this is the only phase in which the hair is attached to the papilla. At any one time, only a portion of the body’s hair follicles are growing active hair.

Q. What should I expect before and after laser hair treatments?

A. Patients should not wax or tweeze 6 weeks prior to their first session or throughout their course of the laser hair treatment. The area to be treated with laser hair removal should be shaved the day before, or the day of the laser hair treatment. All hair should shed three weeks following the laser hair treatment. Exfoliating and scrubbing gently should speed up the shedding process. After three weeks some patients may see small black dots remain in the hair follicle. These are commonly referred to as "pepper spots" and will shed on their own.

Although you can resume your normal activities, you should avoid exposing the treated area to the sun for at least 1 week post your laser hair treatment.  If you must be in the sun, use a 45 to 50 SPF sunscreen. Clean the area with mild soap and water and do not use any products that may irritate the skin. Occasionally, following the laser hair removal procedure the area may be red or swollen, as if mildly sunburned. You’ll notice hair “growing” in the area within ten days of your treatment. This is actually the damaged hair falling out, rather than re-growth. You may shave these hairs if they bother you, but do not wax, tweeze, or bleach hairs between your laser hair treatments.

Q. Am I a candidate for laser hair removal?

A. The best candidates are patients treating areas with dark, coarse and dense hair growth. The lighter the skin and darker the hair the better the results.

Q. Are there any laser hair removal risks or side effects?

A. Some people may experience the following temporary side effects: Itching, redness for up to 3 days, swelling of follicle for up to 3 days, tingling or feeling of numbness after their laser hair removal treatment.

Q. Does laser hair removal hurt?

A:  Some say laser hair removal feels like small elastic bands slapping against the skin, while others don’t feel a thing. During the procedure you’ll feel the lasers gentle light on the skin as the laser is absorbed by the hair follicles. Each pulse of the laser lasts a fraction of a second and treats an area of approximately ½ inch. Our lasers are equipped with a cooling system to decrease skin temperature to preventing burns from the heat generated by the laser.

Laser Skin Tightening

Q. What can I expect on my first visit?

A. On your first visit you will meet with a laser technician to discuss the treatment areas of your choice. Together a treatment plan will be developed. Be prepared to undergo a treatment at your first visit. To provide the most comfortable experience possible an anesthetic numbing cream will be applied to the treated area. It takes approximately 30 minutes for the cream to take full effect. Please plan accordingly.

Q. When will I see results of my skin tightening treatment?

A. Most patients notice changes in the tone and condition of their skin immediately following a treatment. However, because the procedure is designed to stimulate the natural growth of collagen, optimal results may take up to a few months to be visible. New collagen growth takes anywhere from 90-180 days to develop following your initial treatment. At which time patients enjoy a dramatically rejuvenated appearance. Depending on the patients desired results, six treatments spaced out 3-4 weeks apart are recommended.

Q. What are the advantages of skin tightening?

A. Laser skin tightening is rapidly becoming one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Skin tightening is increasing in popularity because it is less invasive than other rejuvenating procedures such as a face lift or body lift procedure.

Q. What are the side effects of skin tightening?

A. Normal side effects may include redness or swelling that should resolve within a few hours or days. In rare cases patients may experience bruising or changes in pigmentation of treatment area.

Q. Does it hurt?

A. During treatment your laser technician will use a small hand piece to apply quick pulses of laser light to your skin. Patients may feel a warm sensation in the treatment area. A numbing agent is applied 20-30 minutes before the procedure to minimize discomfort.

Microdermabrasion

Q. What are the benefits to microdermabrasion?

A. Microdermabrasion improves:

Skin texture

Uneven skin color

Acne and acne scarring

Dull or dry patches

Clogged pores and blackheads

Large pores

Fine lines

Sun spots

Age spots

Best of all there is now downtime. You can resume regular activities immediately. Your skin will be much more sensitive to the sun, SPF 30 or higher is highly recommended for 3-5 days post treatment.

Q. What results can I expect and how many treatments will I need?

A. Poor health, diet, aging, stress, and the elements of nature can slow down skin cell turnover. By speeding up the cellular turn over process, microdermabrasion brings you closer to healthy younger-looking skin. It allows you to gradually improve your skin without risks, side effects or downtime. To achieve a good result, several treatments are recommended. Treatments are usually scheduled 1-2 weeks apart.

Q. How does my skin look immediately after a treatment?

A. Microdermabrasion leaves your skin feeling soft and silky with a healthy glow. You leave the office with only a mild, temporary pinkness on the treated areas.
